Farmers' Gatorade: Fresh & Fermented Hydration

  • Rock Steady Farm 41 Kaye Road Millerton, NY, 12546 (map)

Come quench your thirst in this hands-on workshop all about making your own herbal “gatorade.” We’ll explore three time-tested techniques that balance tangy vinegar with natural sweetness to create refreshing, mineral-rich drinks that can satisfy any farmer’s quench.

We’ll learn the history and craft behind traditional drinks like switchel, sekahnjebin, and oxymel, and break down their medicinal qualities—how they work and why they’re so effective for hydration.

Participants will taste freshly made switchel and leave with their own handcrafted herbal oxymel and sekahnjebin syrup to take home.

Come sip, make, and learn a few new ways to stay hydrated!

About the Facilitator:

khadija (they/she) is a queer gujarati muslim land tender, medicine maker, and educator. their work is rooted in dhikr—a sacred Islamic practice of remembrance—returning, again and again, to the Divine through presence and intention. through zindagi apothecary, they create intentional, hands-on learning circles that (re)connect people with plants, with spirit, and with the living world that holds us.

through tending, crafting medicine, and coming together, her work becomes a space of quiet return—where plants are not just remedies, but teachers, and where we (re)find our way to ourselves, to each other, and to a sense of belonging within the more-than-human world.
